Are you a horror movie fan?
Each year we have a movie night every weekend in October leading up to our Halloween party. This helps to get everyone in the proper spirit for this holiday. It also allows people to meet each other before the party; this will help with social interactions at the main event. We keep the movie nights casual and we never really know how many people will arrive. We always show two movies each evening.
Some movie night tips:
Choose a theme for your movie nights. This will usually follow your party theme (if you’re having a zombie party then choose zombie movies), but sometimes your theme won’t have a lot of movies related to it. Other options for horror theme nights include:
- Horror Around the World – Choose a different country/continent each movie night
- Horror Through the Decades – Each night, choose movies from a particular decade
- Horror Humour – this is a great choice if you or your guests aren’t into scary movies
- Viewer’s Choice – guests vote on a movie to watch. Movies can be contributed by the host and the guests.
To help you choose which movies to watch you can search for the movies trailers on YouTube. For movie description and ratings, IMDB (Internet Movie Database) is a great choice www.imdb.com.
Serve movie snacks. We always make lots of popcorn. You can always also choose to ask guests to bring also a movie treat to share.
- Popcorn Seasonings: Spicy Nacho, Shichimi Togarashi, Italian, Pumpkin Spice, Sweet and Salty.
Make the room dark. It is more frightening without lights.
Consider having another room set aside so kids can watch their own Halloween themed movies that aren’t so frightening.
